Knittelfeld Austria:
HTECs Getting Bigger and Better

Of the five new facilities, one is dedicated to teaching basic engineering techniques, one is for assembly and aerospace engineering, and three are for turning, milling and welding tuition. Each year the school trains approximately 1600 young people in these various engineering disciplines.
“This is a stunning HTEC facility,” says Haas Automation Europe’s Bert Maes. “The Knittelfield project has taken several years to come to fruition, but school director Mr Diethart Reiter has never relented in his quest: to prepare his students in the best possible way for their working lives and their careers.”
More than 700 people attended the grand opening of the Knittelfeld facility on October 6th, including 220 representatives from local and national companies, 410 students and dozens of teachers and lecturers. Herr Reiter told guests: “Now we have the Haas machines and the support of the HTEC Industry Partners, we are superbly equipped and are ready to make our school famous for its high technical standards. Many of our young people want to build a career in precision engineering and CNC technology. All they needed was the support, the equipment and the opportunity.”
Politicians and representatives from state and local government also attended the event, as did several VIPs, including regional education councilor Elizabeth Grossman, Vice-president of the province school board Elisabeth Meixner and Karl Linnepe from the Chaudoire Foundation, a generous financial benefactor of the school.
“Apart from the size of the investment at Knittelfeld, the most striking thing about the facility is the number of people and organizations involved,” says Mr. Maes. “So many people have dedicated their time and energy to making this project a reality. The benefit to the students and the local economy will be considerable and long-lasting.”
s with all HTECs, Knittelfeld is also supported by the HTEC Industry Partner network, including KELLER, MasterCam, Esprit, Renishaw, Sandvik Coromant, Schunk, Blaser, Urma, Chick, Air Turbine Technology, Hainbuch and CIMCOOL.
