Finland's first HTEC conference takes place in Vaasa

On February 15 and 16 about 40 people with a heart for CNC education came together at the Yrkesakademin i Österbotten in Vaasa in Finland for the country’s first HTEC conference. Vaasa is the fifteenth city in Finland but is a manufacturing and energy powerhouse.
The Yrkesakademin is one of Finland’s two HTECs and is the leading technical high school on the country’s west coast.

The goal of the conference was to get teachers to get to know one another, to network about best practices in CNC education and to promote collaboration.

On the 15th Haas Automation, its local distributor Gronblom Oy, the Yrkesakademin and local industry gave speeches on the importance and future of CNC education. Several HTEC partners, amongst them Mastercam, Sandvik and Cimcool gave workshops in the afternoon so that teachers could update their knowledge on new products and technologies.

On the second day the participants visited a production unit of Wärtsilä a global player in the production of internal combustion machines for large ships. In the afternoon teachers discussed CNC education with the local industry, the main topic here was: how to build a curriculum that prepares students in the best way possible for a role in the industry. Organization, partners and participants were pleased with the conference and a new conference is planned for 2017.
